ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Minister of Solid minerals, Dele Alake has said that the African Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG) will play a crucial role in reshaping the future of mineral development in Africa, prioritizing sustainability, technology transfer, and economic growth across the continent.
The minister who disclosed this when he took to his X account handle on Friday, recalled that in his recent interview with CNBC Africa at the Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, a key figure in African mineral development outlined the creation of the African Minerals Strategy Group (AMSG). According to him, the initiative aims to establish a cohesive policy and regulatory framework to guide mineral exploitation across the continent.
Alake further emphasized that the AMSG is designed to foster collaboration among African nations, ensuring that local communities benefit from the vast mineral resources within their borders. The forum highlighted the growing global demand for minerals like lithium, cobalt, and nickel, driven by the transition to green energy. In this context, aligning Africa’s policies with global trends has become more important than ever, he added.
“A central focus of the AMSG is to counter the historical exploitation of African minerals by promoting sustainable practices and attracting responsible investment. The initiative also seeks to overcome technological challenges in the sector by encouraging partnerships with developed nations to boost local manufacturing capabilities, Alake said.
