AWKA (PRECISE POST)   –   As Anambra State drifts into one of its tumultuous and most uncertain political seasons ahead of the November 8 governorship election, Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has thrown civility to the wind, openly vowing to destroy the reputation of Senator Uche Ekwunife, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy Governorship candidate, while publicly mocking Labour Party’s George Moghalu.

The re-election seeking governor, who is flying the flag of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), brazenly declared through his Senior Special Assistant on New Media, Adichie Izuchukwu, that a coordinated social media campaign had been activated to “damage Uche Ekwunife’s political career beyond repair.”

Adichie, a relatively obscure aide with barely 30 followers on his social media handle , wrote boastfully during the weekend on behalf of Soludo;

“Dancing to the gods because I know, I will use my 30k followers to damage Uche Ekwunife’s political career beyond repair!”

This latest outburst follows weeks of calculated character assassination, where Soludo and his aides accused the former Anambra Central Senator of parading a “fake PhD certificate.” In Soludo’s words:

“What this means is that she does not have a diploma, a degree or a master’s degree, but jumped to present a PhD. That is wrong.”

Critics say this obsession with Ekwunife’s academic qualifications betrays Soludo’s fear of her rising political profile and growing influence among grassroots voters.

But Soludo did not stop there. At a Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria prayer rally in Awka, the governor turned the solemn gathering into a stage for ridicule. With mocking laughter, he publicly taunted Labour Party’s George Moghalu:

“There’s somebody I saw when I was coming in… my brother George Moghalu, my brother, you’re welcome. I heard they said you’re contesting for something (laughs hysterically). But don’t worry, after you’re done struggling in vain you’ll still come back to me.”

Observers say this display of arrogance paints the picture of a governor intoxicated with power, who, instead of addressing insecurity and poverty ravaging Anambra, has chosen to belittle his opponents with open derision.

Soludo under Fire for Governance Failures

Meanwhile Civil society groups, particularly the South East Patriots, have condemned Soludo’s gutter-level politics, describing it as “infantile character assassination” at a time the state is bleeding from violence, killings, and gross human rights violations.

Since launching his controversial “Agunechemba” vigilante outfit, Anambra has witnessed monthly cases of extra-judicial killings, extortion, abductions, and assaults including the brutal beating and stripping of an NYSC corps member, Jennifer Edema, in July.

Reports of unprovoked shootings and forced bank transfers by the operatives have further painted Soludo’s security approach as lawless and predatory.

Despite this worsening state of insecurity with attacks in communities like Ogboji and Ogidi leaving dozens dead in recent months Soludo has spent more energy hurling insults at respected figures like Senator Ekwunife, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, and Moghalu, rather than offering solutions.

“A Governor Who Fears His Opponents”

Obunike Ohaegbu, Convener of the South East Patriots, minced no words in rebuking the governor:

“As a sitting governor with full access to official channels of verification, he could have quietly investigated Senator Ekwunife’s credentials. Instead, he chose the path of public demonisation.”

Political analysts say Soludo’s desperate attempt to destroy Uche Ekwunife’s reputation underscores how rattled he has become by her influence in Anambra politics.

They warn that his boastful threats are unbecoming of a state governor and could further alienate voters tired of insecurity, arrogance, and empty promises.

With Anambra’s election countdown ticking, the public mood is shifting.

Many now see Soludo less as a leader and more as a boastful politician determined to silence opponents through mockery, intimidation, and smear campaigns.
