The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially begun the sale of nomination and expression of interest forms for aspirants vying for vacant legislative positions in the forthcoming National Assembly bye-elections scheduled for August 16, 2025.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the elections are set to fill two vacant Senatorial seats, five House of Representatives seats, and nine State House of Assembly positions across 12 states.
In a statement released on Monday, the APC announced the cost of nomination forms as follows: ₦20 million for Senate aspirants, ₦10 million for House of Representatives aspirants, and ₦2 million for those contesting State House of Assembly seats.
The party has scheduled its primary elections for July 16, 2025, to select its candidates across all levels.
One of the early aspirants, Hon. Oscar Agedo, has obtained his nomination forms to contest the Ovia Federal Constituency seat in Edo State, a position previously held by the current Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa. Agedo, a former local government chairman, expressed commitment to sustaining and expanding developmental gains within the constituency.
Speaking to journalists at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, Agedo stated:
“My intention to represent my people in the Green Chambers is rooted in a desire to make quality legislation and ensure effective representation. While infrastructure remains important, I will prioritise youth empowerment, education, and human capacity development.”
He also urged the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) to conduct transparent and credible primaries, reaffirming his faith in the APC’s internal democratic processes.
“Our party has built a reputation for credible primaries. I am confident that the July 19 primary election in our constituency will be free, fair, and transparent,” he added.
In Kaduna State, Comrade Yakubu Waziri, an aspirant for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency seat, praised Governor Uba Sani for his efforts in addressing insecurity in Southern Kaduna.
“We are no longer in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Thanks to the interventions by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, we are experiencing a new era of peace,” Waziri said.
He assured constituents of inclusive and impactful representation if elected, emphasizing that what has been achieved so far is only the beginning.
The upcoming bye-elections are being closely watched by political analysts and stakeholders as a key indicator of the APC’s grassroots strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.
