Busted! How Lawyers Steal In Court Rooms – Justice Ojukwu Narrates

Abuja (Precise Post) – Not many Nigerians will believe that lawyers who are seen as custodians of the law who also appear in court to defend alleged offenders and those whose actions fall foul of the law, even steal in court rooms.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prof Ernest Ojukwu on Monday revealed that contrary to expectations, lawyers steal in court rooms not at customary court but as high as Federal High court.

He burst the bubble on Monday during the interactive session at the two-day Administration of Criminal Justice retreat for Katsina state judges and stakeholders in Abuja.

Shortly after Justice O. O Adekeye SAN sighted instance of how conviction evidence of court against the one time governor of Delta state, James Ibori was destroyed or missed in the court, adding that such an act must have been perpetrated by those working within the judiciary. Prof Ojukwu also recounted that these days in court, as high as the federal High court, lawyers steal Papers of fellow lawyers.

According to him, “you will prepare your papers and keep on your table In court, the moment you turn away your eyes, your prepared paper(s) will disappear. not in customary court, I am talking about Federal High court, he added.

Justice Adekeye however said that the establishment of “conviction registry” will put an end to destruction of evidence of conviction and as such citizens will know that there is no hiding place once you are convicted of any crime.
