ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Civic Accountability & Electoral Transparency Initiative (CAETI) has called on former Chairman of Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State, Dele Oshinowo, to provide clearer copies of the WAEC credentials he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The organisation made the demand in a statement signed by its Director-General, Adewale Oladimeji, following its review of copies of the educational credentials attributed to Oshinowo and published for public scrutiny.
CAETI said its concern was primarily about the quality and legibility of the documents, stressing that the submission of two WAEC-related documents did not, in itself, constitute evidence of wrongdoing.
According to the organisation, the copies currently available to the public do not appear sufficiently clear to allow voters and other stakeholders to examine and independently verify the information contained in them.
It alleged that some key details, including examination information, dates, subjects, grades and other identifying particulars, appeared faint or difficult to read.
CAETI questioned how members of the public could meaningfully scrutinise or independently verify a candidate’s credentials when the documents made available for examination were not sufficiently legible.
The group said candidates seeking elective office should be willing to subject their educational and other credentials to the highest standards of transparency, particularly because elected officials are entrusted with constitutional responsibilities on behalf of the people.
It therefore urged Oshinowo to voluntarily publish clear, high-resolution copies of the original WAEC certificate or result documents submitted to INEC, with relevant details sufficiently visible for public examination.
CAETI also called on INEC to ensure that candidates’ credentials are published in formats that facilitate meaningful public scrutiny and verification.
“Transparency should not be reduced to merely putting a document on a notice board,” the organisation said, stressing that genuine transparency requires information to be “intelligible, accessible and verifiable.”
The organisation emphasised that its demand should not be interpreted as an allegation of forgery or wrongdoing against Oshinowo, but rather as a call for greater clarity and accountability in the electoral process.
“If the documents are genuine, complete and verifiable, there should be no difficulty in presenting them clearly to the public,” CAETI said.
The group urged political stakeholders and residents of Kosofe to focus on facts and independent verification rather than speculation or political rhetoric.
“Kosofe deserves clarity. Kosofe deserves transparency and accountability,” the organisation declared.
CAETI consequently called on Oshinowo to publish clear copies of the credentials he submitted to INEC and allow voters to examine and independently verify the information ahead of the 2027 electoral process.
