CALABAR- Some residents of Calabar metropolis have decried the deplorable state of the Etta Agbor Road, describing it as ‘poor and worrisome’

The residents who spoke in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, urged the state government to intervene in the interest of the public.

NAN reports that the Etta Agbor Road which spans from Etta Agbor Round-About to Orok Orok Junction, is one of the busiest roads within the Cross River capital.

The road leads to the University of Calabar, the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, and links the Calabar Municipal Area Council with Calabar South Area Council.

One of the residents, Mr Adam Ume, said that the potholes on the road had made movement of vehicles almost impossible during the rainy season.

“The potholes at the Akim junction segment of the road, and the ones around the small gate area of UniCal have become a source of worry to residents.

“It is more disturbing that with the bad state of the road, traffic lights are left on, but they are needless because they only compound our challenges with long queues,” he said.

Another resident, Mrs Gladys Etuk, a medical doctor, said that productive hours were being lost daily as a result of the time spent on long queues along the road.

“It is worrisome that an important road such as the Etta Agbor Road is not being given the right attention. The public is facing the direct impact of this neglect.

“The road is bad, it is also not wide enough to accommodate the number of vehicles that pass through it, we just pray that no emergency happens here,” she said.

Mr Adim Collins, a commercial transport operator, said that the state of the road had negatively affected his business.

He urged the state government to quickly award the contract for the rehabilitation of the road to ensure easy movement of goods and services.NAN)
