Abuja (PRECISE POST) –  The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Hafsat Abubakar Bakari, has joined millions of Nigerians in commemorating Democracy Day, calling for renewed national commitment to justice, equality, and accountable governance.

In a statement released on the official X account of NFIU on Thursday, Bakari described Democracy Day as a “pivotal moment” in Nigeria’s history, marking the return to civilian rule in 1999 and the rebirth of democratic values in the country.

“As we celebrate, let us reflect on how far we’ve come while acknowledging the work still ahead,” she said. “Democracy thrives on justice, equality, and freedom—principles we must continually uphold.”

Bakari reaffirmed the NFIU’s dedication to supporting Nigeria’s democratic journey, emphasizing the link between stable governance and national development.

“At the NFIU, we are unwavering in our mission to strengthen Nigeria’s progress. A stable democracy is the foundation of economic growth, security, and national unity,” she noted.

Concluding her message, the NFIU boss urged Nigerians to remain united in the pursuit of a “brighter, more secure, and more prosperous Nigeria.”

Democracy Day, celebrated annually on June 12, commemorates the historic 1993 presidential election widely considered the freest and fairest in Nigeria’s history, as well as the restoration of civilian rule in 1999.
