Demolishing Some Of My Projects Won’t Diminish What I Did For Imolites – Okorocha Slams Uzodimma

By Chris Udochukwu

Abuja (Precise Post) – Federal lawmaker representing Imo West Senatorial District, Senator Rochas Okorocha has slammed Governor Hope Uzodimma over the demolition of Imo International Conference Centre (IICC) and other landmark projects of his administration, saying that no amount of blackmail and demolition of his projects would diminish all he did for Imo people.

The former governor who stated that Uzodinma is setting a bad precedent and seems not to be keen in giving his government human face or Democratic colourations, disclosed this in a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media), Sam Onwuemeodo made available to Precise Post on Sunday.

The statement reads in full:

The government in Imo State, led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, has finally demolished the ultra modern and imposing Imo International Conference Centre (IICC), Owerri. They demolished it at night on Saturday. Before now, they had blown the roof of the Conference Centre, equally at night, before its total demolition.

The edifice didn’t have any crack for the eight years Okorocha was governor. It was also standing strong when Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha was on seat as governor. But in less than two years of governor Uzodinma’s government, the magnificent structure had touch the ground. This is unhealthy.

As usual, before 6am on that Saturday, they had begun to circulate the pictures of the demolished Conference Centre claiming that it collapsed.

The Conference Centre did not Collapse when the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, had their National Conference there, with more than ten thousand lawyers from far and near in attendance. It didn’t collapse when more than Seven thousand Nigerians gathered there for the Nigeria Media Merit Award, (NMMA) event. And members of the Nigeria Guild of Editors also used the Centre.

It didn’t Collapse when more than five thousand traditional rulers and Stakeholders across the nation used the Conference Centre for a peace confab. It did not also Collapse when Judges in the Country, in their thousands also used the place for their Conference.

IICC didn’t Collapse when notable Church leaders like Bishop David Ibiyiome of Salvation Ministry, Prophet Suleman and few others, used the Centre for their individual Crusades and more than eleven thousand people gathered in each case. But only for the Centre to be said to have Collapsed when there has never been any pressure on it since the current government came on board.

A day before the demolition of the IICC, the government had also demolished the beautiful Government House roundabout built by Okorocha with the statue of a man standing with the Holy Bible in his hand. The government demolished everything including the Statue of the man and the bible in his hand.

The government had earlier demolished Mbaise Road Junction roundabout; Warehouse roundabout; PolyNekede Junction roundabout; Emmanuel College roundabout; Shoprite roundabout, Wethedral road Junction roundabout.

And the government has not Constructed new roundabouts to replace the demolished ones. Rather, the government had used four inches blocks to demarcate some portions. And asphalted and painted the affected portions. Nothing more. And we Challenge the government to make public, the costs of the block works on the sites of the demolished roundabouts and we publish the costs of the destroyed roundabouts to let the public have an idea of what is going on in the State now.

The government also demolished the attractive and edifying underground tunnel at the Imo State House of Assembly Junction also Constructed by Okorocha. As we write, nothing has been done there.

The government, few days ago, also demolished the tunnel at the Concorde Junction along Port-Harcourt road. Before Okorocha, that junction had claimed a lot of lives, including that of a serving Commissioner under Chief Ikedi Ohakim. Okorocha Constructed that tunnel and the accidents and the attendants deaths stopped.

Imo people and other interested people should go there now and see why the government demolished the tunnel. Terrible traffic jams have begun to happen at the junction, especially between 7am and 10am and between 4pm and 7pm. And no day had passed, without accident at the place.

The government had equally demolished the Somto Hospital built by Okorocha at the site of the former Ekeukwu Market. Since then, the government has not been able to justify the demolition of the hospital. A visit to that place would be more appropriate.

And we are talking about a government that has not been able to remove heaps of refuse that have enveloped Owerri, the State Capital. That has not been able to pay Salaries and Pensions. That has only been patching roads at a very high Costs. Let this government clear one virgin area and Construct road there. This patch patch thing can not be what a government has been doing in almost two years.

The government had also patched the Akachi road Okorocha cleared the tick forest there and Constructed that road. But the government patched few bad spots on the road and not only renamed it, but commissioned it again. A road that was constructed by a governor before you. That’s not a good outing.

When the governor said sometime ago that he was in-charge, we had thought that he was going to take the bull by the horn, by enthroning peace, arrest the ugly security situation, inject life into the economy of the State and so on. But the governor has only gone ahead to prove that he is in-charge obviously in a very wrong way and manner.

The governor is setting a very bad standard in all ramifications. Aside this bad example of demolishing projects he met on ground because he does not like the face of the man God used to do the projects, he has gone ahead to run the State without properly Constituted EXCO or Cabinet for months now. He dissolved his Cabinet in May. And this is August. And he does not care how Imo people feel. That’s the way of dictators.

We have also heard that he has stopped opening the Government House Chapel on Sundays for worship also built by Okorocha, because one traditional ruler was said to have commended Okorocha for the Chapel to the hearing of the governor. That’s not the way to go.

The Palatial Eze Imo Palace, the governor has fallen in love with, following the way he has been using the place for his major events was also built by Okorocha. What stops the governor from commending Okorocha before his guests for putting up such magnificent structure? You can not be talking ills of a governor before you, while using the structures and facilities he had put in place and without you commending him any day and expect people to believe you.

Okorocha served Imo and her people with high level of commitment and dedication. Imo people know the truth. Blackmailing Okorocha and demolishing some of his projects would never diminish all he did for Imo people. Time will tell. The blackmailer may finally become the blackmailed. We should always act well our parts, for there, the true honour lies.
