ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West, Seriake Dickson, has expressed deep shock and grief over the kidnapping and gruesome murder of former House of Representatives member, Abba Anas Adamu, describing his death as a painful national loss.
In an emotional tribute released Monday on his X handle, Dickson said he was devastated after receiving news that Abba Anas was abducted alongside others amid the worsening insecurity ravaging parts of Northern Nigeria and other regions of the country.
According to him, despite the payment of ransom demanded by the kidnappers, the former lawmaker was still brutally murdered.
Dickson recalled that the late Abba Anas was more than a political ally, noting that their friendship dated back to their days together in the House of Representatives around 2007.
He recounted their joint role during the political crisis that followed the illness of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, when lawmakers pushed for the emergence of then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as Acting President under what later became known as the “Doctrine of Necessity.”
Dickson explained that he led a group of lawmakers under the Nigeria First Forum and appointed Abba Anas to chair the team because of his courage, patriotism, and commitment to national unity.
He further disclosed that while former Bauchi lawmaker, Sani Abdu, moved the historic motion for Jonathan to become Acting President, Abba Anas seconded the motion during the heated parliamentary session.
The former governor praised the late politician for standing firm despite intimidation, inducement, and political pressure, noting that his principled stance eventually cost him political support in his home state and prevented his return to the House of Representatives.
Dickson said their relationship remained strong over the years, adding that Abba Anas stood by him throughout his tenure as governor and later during his service in the Senate.
He also revealed that the deceased was among the original members involved in conceptualising the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) movement before later aligning politically with the African Democratic Congress.
Describing the circumstances surrounding his death as tragic and heartbreaking, Dickson said Nigeria had lost a committed nationalist, loyal ally, and dependable friend.
He extended condolences to the family, wives, children, friends, and associates of the deceased, praying for God to grant them strength to bear the painful loss.
The senator added that he would, in the coming days, join friends and associates in paying a formal condolence visit to the family of the late politician.
