Protesters demonstrating against the harsh economy have been restricted to specific locations across the three senatorial districts of Edo State.Â
According to the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, Funsho Adegboye, the King Square in Benin City is the area allocated for the peaceful protest in Edo South.
In a press briefing late on Wednesday, he also assured members of the public that the police would be professional, civil, and protect the peaceful protesters, and possibly provide water and ambulance service.
He, however, warned that gatherings in the guise of a protest at other venues would be deemed criminal and highly frowned upon
The commissioner also revealed that a situation room had been opened at the command headquarters for feedback and updates.
Areas outside the designated protest location on Thursday were devoid of their usual bustle. At Upper Mission Road in the state capital, which is mainly a residential area, the road was almost empty of commuters and commercial vehicles between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m.
