Efforts to Save Lagbaja Were Exhaustive, Acting COAS Credits Tinubu

by Arabella Zikora

The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, revealed on Wednesday night that President Bola Tinubu made every effort to save the life of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.

Speaking with selected reporters, General Oluyede expressed the deep sorrow felt across the Nigerian Army following the loss of its leader.

“His death is highly regrettable,” Oluyede stated. “Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the country did everything possible to keep him with us. He was someone who gave his all to Nigeria.”

Describing Lagbaja as a “selfless leader” and a man of “passionate dedication to Nigeria,” Oluyede added, “He led the Nigerian Army with courage, thoroughness, and professionalism. His loss is a profound one for us, and we pray that the good Lord will grant him rest.”

The Acting COAS urged Nigerians to celebrate Lagbaja for his dedication and contributions to the country, highlighting his legacy of selflessness and commitment. “I want Nigerians to truly celebrate him for the good work he did,” Oluyede said.

Lagbaja, aged 56, passed away after battling an undisclosed illness while undergoing medical treatment. The federal government reported that he died in Lagos upon his return to Nigeria, which subsequently led to Oluyede’s promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General.
