ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has been temporarily released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), sparking fresh reactions across the political landscape.
The development was disclosed on Friday by his son, Bashir El-Rufai, who took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to confirm the release.
In his post, Bashir thanked supporters for their solidarity while sharply criticising the anti-graft agency, describing his father’s detention as unjust.
El-Rufai had been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations related to financial misconduct and other offences.
However, as of the time of filing this report, the commission has yet to release an official statement detailing the terms of his temporary freedom or the direction of its ongoing investigation.
The former governor’s release comes amid a period of personal loss, following reports that his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, passed away earlier on Friday in Cairo, Egypt.
