ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to security as the bedrock of economic growth, declaring Enugu the safest city in Nigeria. The statement came during a courtesy visit by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 13, AIG Abayomi Oladipo, at the Lion Building on Thursday.
Describing the meeting as “productive,” Governor Mbah emphasized that security remains the foundation upon which his administration is building its ambitious vision to grow Enugu’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion.
“We understood from the beginning that our goals — turning Enugu into a hub for investment, tourism, business, and living — cannot be achieved without a secure environment,” he said.
Governor Mbah detailed the extensive investments his government has made to enhance safety across the state. These include the installation of AI-powered surveillance cameras, the establishment of a modern Command and Control Centre, and the deployment of over 150 security vehicles through the state’s Distress Response Squad.
“These assets have given Enugu the ability not only to prevent crime but to respond swiftly and solve cases effectively,” the Governor noted.
He dismissed recent social media reports of insecurity in the state as “recycled falsehoods and propaganda,” accusing detractors of circulating outdated videos and incidents from other locations to misrepresent the reality in Enugu.
“If we look beyond these fake narratives, it becomes clear that Enugu is, unarguably, the safest city in Nigeria,” Mbah stated.
Despite the current progress, the Governor said the state would not rest on its laurels. “We continue to hold our security agencies to account and work closely with them to ensure that no crime goes unpunished,” he added.
Governor Mbah also expressed gratitude to AIG Oladipo for his visit and for commending the state’s security achievements. He acknowledged the productive collaboration between the Police Commissioners in Enugu and neighbouring Anambra State, saying the synergy has contributed significantly to the improved security landscape in the region.
The visit underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in Enugu and reinforce the state’s positioning as a safe and attractive destination for investors and residents alike.
