BRUSSELS – The European Union is donating €1 million (approximately $1.16 million) and sending 130 tonnes of relief supplies after Sunday’s devastating earthquake in Afghanistan, which killed more than 900 people. The emergency funding will be directed to humanitarian partners already conducting relief operations on the ground, the European Commission announced on Tuesday.

In addition, the commission will transport around 130 tonnes of emergency supplies—including tents, clothing, medical equipment, and water purification systems—to Kabul.

The EU is also making its satellite services available to support the coordination and delivery of aid, the commission added.

“As this new earthquake in Afghanistan puts additional strain on an already dire humanitarian situation, the EU is stepping in to help,” said EU Crisis Management Commissioner Hadja Lahbib.
Lahbib added that the affected areas had taken in many Afghani refugees returned from Pakistan in recent months.
The funding comes in addition to 161 million euros for humanitarian organisations active in Afghanistan previously allocated in 2025.
