Excessive Heat Cause of Giwa Barracks Explosion – Army Hqters

ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   The Nigerian Army Headquarters (NAH) has reacted to the multiple explosions that rocked Giwa barracks  on Wednesday, saying is the current high temperatures in Maiduguri that led to the explosion of some munitions.

The NAH disclosed this in a statement sogned by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations
Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Reuben Kovangiya released on the official X account of the  NAH on Wedneday.

The statement reads in part:

The Headquarters Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI Maiduguri, wishes to inform the general public of an incident involving the explosion of ordnance in one of our ammunition storage facilities located in Giwa Barracks.

The explosion was due to the current high temperatures in Maiduguri which led to the explosion of some munitions. The situation has however, been brought under control with the combined efforts of the Borno State Fire Service Department and other fire trucks from security agencies. Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have been deployed to protect the public and prevent miscreants from taking advantage of the situation.

The statement further urged the general public to please discountenance any speculation of an attack within the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and remain calm.

Precise Post recalls that there was explosions at the armoury in Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri on Wednesday.

It was reported that as the time the incident started. residents in the area were forced out of their houses by the sounds of loud blasts and also the sight of red flares lighting up the sky around the barracks.

“This is to inform the public that on Wednesday, 30 April 2025, at 10.30 pm, there was a report of a fire outbreak at Giwa Barracks Maiduguri.
