“Expect a Hostile Battle” – Troost-Ekong on Upcoming Libya Challenge

by Arabella Zikora

Wiliam Troost-Ekong says the Super Eagles must brace up for a difficult test against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in Benina.

Augustine Eguavoen’s side triumphed over the North Africans 1-0 in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday three encounter in Uyo on Friday night.

Despite their dominance, the Super Eagles had to wait until the 86th minute before scoring the decisive goal.

The two teams will battle again in the reverse fixture in Benina next Tuesday.

Troost-Ekong acknowledged the Libyans will be difficult to beat again.

“I think we knew we were superior today but we had to take the game like a big puzzle trying to solve the problem on how we can get the chances,” Troost-Ekong said in the post-match conference.

“And now the experience from the first game should prepare us better for the second game.”

“I think it will be something similar and probably be more difficult because we won’t have our lovely fans here to cheer us on so it is going to be very hostile there.”
