FCCPC Shuts Down Visa Application Centre Over Customer Complaints and Assault on Officials

by Joy Chinelo

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has sealed the Abuja office of TLSContact, a visa application centre serving Nigerian applicants, over multiple alleged regulatory violations, including customer complaints, obstruction of investigation, and physical assault on law enforcement officers.

The enforcement action took place on Thursday, June 19, when FCCPC operatives, accompanied by police and other security personnel, stormed the TLSContact facility. Staff members were ordered to vacate the premises before the building was officially sealed.

Speaking during the operation, Boladale Adeyinka, Director of Surveillance and Investigation at the FCCPC, stated that the company had committed serious infractions, including assaulting FCCPC officers and police personnel, as well as refusing to comply with the Commission’s lawful investigative procedures.

According to Adeyinka, the case began on March 25, 2025, when a customer lodged a formal complaint against TLSContact regarding paid visa services that were allegedly not rendered. The Commission initiated an investigation and sent a written notice to the company. Rather than complying, Adeyinka said, TLSContact staff assaulted FCCPC officials who visited the office in line with the complaint resolution process outlined in the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA).

The situation escalated further when the FCCPC issued a summons pursuant to Section 33 of the FCCPA, demanding the company’s appearance before the Commission. TLSContact reportedly refused to acknowledge the summons and, during a subsequent visit, allegedly assaulted FCCPC officers a second time—this time also targeting police officers providing lawful security.

“In light of this consistent pattern of obstruction and aggression, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Tunji Bello, approved the sealing of the TLSContact facility,” Adeyinka said. “The company is under investigation for offering services deemed unlawful under the FCCPA.”

Adeyinka further noted that the Commission has continued to receive fresh complaints from customers, even during the enforcement operation. These reports allege that TLSContact failed to deliver visa services despite receiving full payments and that some clients were misled or denied fair recourse.

While the FCCPC team was still at the scene, a TLSContact representative reportedly acknowledged receipt of a fresh summons addressed to the Country Manager. The company has been ordered to appear before the Commission on Friday, June 20.

This development marks a significant escalation in FCCPC’s efforts to protect Nigerian consumers from exploitative practices and enforce regulatory compliance across all service sectors.
