FCT Resident Doctors Suspend Indefinite Strike After 30 Days, Issue Fresh Ultimatum to FCTA

by Joy: News Admin

Resident doctors under the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) have suspended their indefinite strike after one month of total industrial action.

The President of the Association of Resident Doctors, FCTA chapter (ARD-FCTA), Dr. George Ebong, confirmed the development in a message sent to our correspondent on Monday.

The strike, which began on November 1, 2025, was suspended following the approval of the doctors’ key demands by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

Doctors Issue Four-Week Ultimatum

Despite calling off the strike, the association warned that it would resume industrial action if the FCTA fails to fully implement the approved agreements within four weeks.

Dr. Ebong stated:

“ARD-FCTA has suspended its strike for four weeks with the hope that the approvals from Mr. Minister will be implemented.”

Background of the Strike

The doctors embarked on the industrial action to demand:

Improved working conditions

Enhanced welfare and remuneration

Better facilities and support across FCTA hospitals

Implementation of previously agreed reforms

The strike paralysed medical services across the FCT, causing significant delays in patient care and placing additional stress on the limited healthcare personnel still on duty.

About ARD-FCTA

The association comprises resident doctors working in 14 district and general hospitals, as well as the Department of Public Health, all under the FCTA.

With the temporary suspension now in place, residents hope that negotiations will translate into real improvements across FCT health facilities.
