ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Federal Government has secured renewed support from China Industrial Bank (CIB) for the Nigeria Universal Communication Access Project (NUCAP), a major digital infrastructure initiative aimed at connecting more than 20 million Nigerians living in underserved communities across the country
Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed this on his X handle Tuesday after receiving a delegation from CIB led by its General Manager of Strategic Emerging Industries Business Headquarters, Peng Shuang.
According to the minister, the meeting reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting NUCAP, which seeks to deploy 3,700 telecommunications towers nationwide to expand access to connectivity in communities that currently lack telecommunications services.
Tijani described NUCAP as a landmark project that will establish a wholly green network of modern telecommunications towers, extending digital access to rural, remote and riverine communities across Nigeria.
He noted that the project is designed to bridge the digital divide, create economic opportunities and promote inclusive growth by providing millions of Nigerians with access to communication and digital services.
The minister further revealed that CIB’s backing of the initiative marks the bank’s first investment in Nigeria, a development he said reflects increasing international confidence in the country’s digital transformation agenda and commitment to expanding meaningful connectivity.
Tijani expressed optimism over the bank’s support for the government’s target of delivering at least 1,000 tower sites before the end of the year, saying the effort would bring connectivity, economic inclusion and new opportunities closer to millions of citizens currently excluded from the digital economy.
