ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –   President Yoweri Museveni has delivered a blunt assessment of Africa’s development challenges, arguing that the continent’s biggest obstacle is not a shortage of funds but a failure of ideology and direction.

Speaking at the Africa We Build Summit, hosted by Kenyan President William Ruto in collaboration with the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), Museveni praised the organisers for what he described as aligning with a “revolutionary” vision for Africa’s transformation.

Museneni, who took to his X handle account to disclose this on Thursday said:
“I thank President Ruto and the AFC for organising this summit. I am glad that they are speaking my language, the language of revolution,” Museveni said, setting the tone for a speech that emphasized structural change over financial dependency.
The Ugandan leader pointed out that despite Africa’s vast landmass, natural resources, and growing population, the continent’s combined Gross Domestic Product (GDP) remains at about $3.6 trillion, a figure he described as disproportionately low compared to its potential.
Drawing comparisons with global economic powers, Museveni noted that countries such as China were once mired in poverty but managed to achieve rapid transformation through discipline, strategic focus, and deliberate investment in key sectors.
He argued that Africa’s underperformance cannot be blamed on lack of capital alone, insisting instead that the real issue lies in leadership mindset and policy orientation.
“Therefore, Africa’s problem is not money; it is ideological,” he declared, calling for a shift toward policies that prioritise production, industrialisation, and self-reliance.
Museveni’s remarks add to ongoing debates among African leaders and development experts over how best to unlock the continent’s economic potential, with increasing calls for homegrown solutions and reduced dependence on external financing.
