LAGOS – The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Sector Command says it embarked on a joint patrol with the Ogun sector command, to apprehend traffic offenders at the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
It said the offenders were apprehended at Kara-OPIC axis of the expressway.
The Lagos Sector Commander, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, who initiated the patrol, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
He said that during the patrol, several traffic violators were apprehended.
“One of the motorists arrested, Koko Moses (male), who drove a Volkswagen vehicle with registration number MUS 89 YG, was found driving against traffic and without a driver’s licence.
“The offender was charged to the Ojodu Abiodun Magisterial District by CSP Ayegbede John, the Divisional Police Officer, Warewa Police Station.
“Upon arraignment, the court found the offender guilty and sentenced him to two months’ imprisonment,” he said.
He said the intensified enforcement along the Kara-OPIC axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, was due to persistent and dangerous practice of motorists driving against traffic.
“In response to this menace, largely exacerbated by ongoing construction works on the bridge joints along both the inward and outward lanes of the expressway, the joint intervention took place also with officers of the Warewa Police Station.
“The operation was aimed at enforcing traffic regulations, restoring sanity on the corridor, and preventing avoidable road traffic crashes that have continued to threaten lives and property,” he said.
The commander described the act of driving against traffic as reckless, unlawful, and a major contributor to fatal crashes on the expressway.
He warned that the command, in collaboration with sister agencies, would continue sustained enforcement and prosecution of offenders to deter others from engaging in such dangerous behaviour.
“Motorists are strongly advised to exercise patience, obey traffic laws, and follow lawful diversions put in place during construction activities.
“No inconvenience justifies risking lives or violating traffic regulations.
“The FRSC Lagos sector command reiterates its commitment to ensuring safety, discipline, and free flow of traffic along all highways within its jurisdiction,” he said. (NAN)
