Opobo, Rivers State – Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed profound gratitude to God during his first church service after being reinstated to office, following a period of political unrest in the state.
Governor Fubara worshipped on Sunday at Saint Paul’s Anglican Cathedral in his hometown of Opobo, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area. He was accompanied by his wife, Valerie Fubara, and a delegation of key stakeholders.
In his remarks, the governor acknowledged God’s unwavering faithfulness to his family, the state, and the nation. He also marked the occasion of the International Day of Peace, thanking members of the congregation for their prayers and support, and urging continued calm and unity as his administration resumes governance.
Sharing moments from the service on his official (formerly Twitter) handle, Governor Fubara wrote:
“In thanksgiving and to glorify God Almighty for His boundless mercy, divine guidance, and steadfast love, my wife and I had the honour of worshipping at our home church, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Opobo Kingdom.
The service was also a moment to sincerely appreciate the church and the good people of Rivers State, whose fervent prayers remain our reservoir of strength and courage on this journey of service.
As we commemorate International Peace Day today, we will continue to walk together in harmony, guided by faith, unity, and a sense of purpose. To God alone be the glory.”
The governor’s public appearance comes shortly after the official lifting of the state of emergency imposed in Rivers State earlier this year.
It will be recalled that President Bola Tinubu had declared emergency rule in March, following a political standoff between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
In a subsequent state broadcast after his reinstatement, Governor Fubara described the emergency period as “enormously challenging,” but affirmed that he complied with the declaration in the interest of peace and stability.
