Gateman Allegedly Sells Employer’s House for ₦175 Million, Gets Only ₦15 Million

by Joy: News Admin

A shocking story has surfaced about a Nigerian woman living abroad whose gateman allegedly sold her house in Lekki, Lagos, without her knowledge.

The incident was revealed on TikTok by a property lawyer identified as @theomonilelawyer, who shared how the gateman colluded with a developer to carry out the fraudulent transaction.

How the House Was Sold

According to the lawyer, the woman bought the property and entrusted the gateman, initially assigned by the developer, to look after it. She regularly sent him money for maintenance and upkeep while she was away.

Unknown to her, the gateman secretly made photocopies of the property’s title documents when the house was still under the developer’s care. He allegedly worked with a fake real estate developer to forge the documents, including cloning the Governor’s Consent and altering the seller’s details.

The forged documents were then used to “sell” the house to an unsuspecting buyer for ₦175 million. Out of this, the gateman reportedly received just ₦15 million as his share.

Discovery of the Fraud

When the real owner eventually returned to Nigeria, she was shocked to find someone else living in her home. Investigations revealed that her trusted gateman had masterminded the fraudulent sale.

The lawyer narrated:

“With the help of a fake developer, they cloned the Governor’s Consent of the former developer, changed the seller’s details, and resold her property for ₦175 million. After months of police investigations, the gateman was traced to Benue State, where he confessed. The case is now in court. Unfortunately, the criminal has since disappeared, leaving the original owner and the buyer locked in a bitter legal battle.”

Social Media Reactions

The story has triggered widespread reactions online:

@Kay_Kay: “How can you use fake documents to sell a house? Didn’t the new buyer verify the papers?”

@brotherbiola1: “If the documents are forged, then the woman is still the rightful owner. Thank God for her.”

Rule World: “We have 24/7 CCTV with internet and solar in our house. The security man can be monitored inside and outside the compound.”

Similar Incident

This is not the first time such a case has been reported. The same lawyer previously shared another story about a tenant in Lagos who sold his landlord’s house and even continued living in it for four months before finally moving out.
