Groups commend Tinubu over creation of army 5 division in Benue

by Administrator
MAKURDI – The Tiv Youth Council Worldwide and Arewa Youth Assembly have commended President Bola Tinubu for creating the 5 Division, Nigerian Army, with headquarters in Makurdi.

The groups made the commendation on Friday in Makurdi, during a peaceful rally organised by civil society organisations to appreciate Tinubu and the military leadership.

They described the establishment of the division as a strategic intervention to tackle insecurity in Benue and the North-Central region.

Mr Emmanuel Katseen, Secretary of the Tiv Youth Council Worldwide, said the creation of the division demonstrated the Federal Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

Katseen noted that Benue had faced armed attacks, kidnapping, banditry, militia activities and communal conflicts, resulting in deaths, destruction, displacement and disruption of farming.

He said the insecurity had threatened Benue’s status as the Food Basket of the Nation and affected agricultural activities across communities.

Katseem said that the new division would therefore strengthen military command, improve rapid response, protect farming communities and support the restoration of agricultural activities.

He added that the division could create opportunities for youth recruitment and empowerment while stimulating socio-economic development through improved infrastructure and economic activities.

He pledged the council’s support for the Nigerian army through credible intelligence sharing and mobilisation of youths to embrace peace and reject violence.

He also promised to discourage the harbouring of criminals and promote harmonious civil-military relations and peaceful coexistence across communities.

Similarly, Mr Aliyu Muhammad, Publicity Secretary, Arewa Youth Assembly, described the creation of the division as a ”stitch in time” capable of saving millions of lives.

Muhammad said the expansion of the Nigerian army from eight to 12 divisions demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises on security.

He said the division’s strategic reach would extend beyond Benue to neighbouring states, including Nasarawa and Kogi, strengthening security coordination across the region.

He urged the federal government to provide adequate funding and modern equipment to enable the new division effectively confront emerging security threats.

He commended the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, for their leadership.

He urged the General Officer Commanding the new division to maintain close engagement with Benue communities, particularly youths, and act in their interest.

The groups called on traditional, religious and community leaders, youth organisations and residents to support security agencies in restoring lasting peace.

They also urged residents to provide credible information to security agencies and reject activities capable of undermining peace and security.(NAN)
