Abuja (Precise Post) – The president of Athletics Federation of Nigeria. Hon. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau still said that he remains the substantial president of the Federation, after the several court ruling, despite several attempts from the Ministry as well as the Minister to deny him his position which have failed woefully.
Speaking with gentle men of the press in Benin the calm president stated that the problem on ground have affected the country’s participation at the youth games in Poland. Which should have been a criteria and opportunity for atheletes to show case themselves as well as qualify for the Olympics.
“The position of the world Athletics Federation says we should be independent. The world Athletics and CAA recognized me as the president. The trial court, appeal court ruled in my favour and confirmed me as president.
The situation on ground have affected our chances to be in Poland. Because we couldn’t have our trials that qualifies us to be in Poland for the youth games.
Atheletes were threatened, the ministry were been petty. We have arranged for these trials to take place. We sourced for funds but suddenly letters started flying in and out. Atheletes were threatened and which is not fair to atheletes.
Now names of countries that qualified came out, but Nigeria name was not there because the Minister and the ministry denied Nigeria that opportunity and we lost it. It have affected our chances at the Olympics.
They have tried to stop me in several ways but they failed. I am still going back to court. I still believe in the judiciary of our country. I still remain the president. “He stated.
