The Nigerian community in the UK and back home is mourning the tragic death of 26-year-old Ayowale Aladejana, who was fatally stabbed at his residence in New Cross, southeast London.
According to a statement from the Metropolitan Police, Ayowale was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency efforts from paramedics and London’s Air Ambulance. The fatal attack occurred on the evening of Saturday, August 2, 2025, following reports of a stabbing at a residential address on Monson Road.
Two Arrested, Charged with Murder
Police have now confirmed that two suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with the murder.
Ben Wazabanga, 23, of Fairfax Road, Bedford, was charged with murder and possession of a knife. He was remanded in custody and appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 4.
Ronique Belfon, also 23, of Morinsbury Road, Bedford, was charged with murder and appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court the same day.
Police Launch Full Investigation
Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, who is leading the investigation, expressed condolences to Ayowale’s loved ones and called for community support in bringing justice to the victim.
“Our thoughts are with Ayowale’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time,” she said.
“We understand this incident has caused deep concern. We are conducting a thorough and fast-paced investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Post-Mortem Reveals Cause of Death
A post-mortem examination carried out on Sunday, August 3, confirmed the preliminary cause of death as a stab wound to the chest.
The Metropolitan Police say the victim’s family is being supported by specially trained officers as they process the devastating loss of their son.
