Aliko Dangote Steps Down as Chairman of Dangote Cement to Focus on Mega Refinery Project

by Joy: News Admin

In a major leadership shift, Dangote Cement Plc has officially announced the retirement of its founder and majority shareholder, Aliko Dangote, from his position as Chairman of the Board.

The announcement was confirmed on Friday by the Group Chief, Branding and Communications Officer, Anthony Chiejina, who stated that Dangote stepped down to dedicate more time and energy to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery — one of Africa’s largest industrial projects.

As part of the leadership transition, the Board has appointed Emmanuel Ikazoboh, an independent non-executive director, as the new Chairman of the Board.

Dangote’s departure marks a significant milestone in the history of the cement giant, coming at a time when the conglomerate is shifting focus to its multibillion-dollar refinery and petrochemical ambitions. Industry experts view this move as a strategic realignment of priorities to accelerate Nigeria’s self-sufficiency in energy and industrial production.
