ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force, in a move aimed at improving personnel welfare, boosting morale, and rewarding dedication and professionalism within the Force.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the promotion exercise cuts across police commands and formations nationwide.
The breakdown of the promotions shows that 165 Sergeants were elevated to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals were promoted to Sergeant, while 17,714 Constables advanced to the rank of Corporal.
The police chief described timely promotion as a vital component of the Force’s human resource management strategy, noting that it serves as a key incentive for officers to remain committed to their constitutional responsibilities.
Disu emphasized that the advancement of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current police leadership to merit-based recognition, career progression, and institutional development.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, the IGP urged them to view their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, discipline, and dedication to service. He also charged them to uphold the core values of the police force by carrying out their duties with integrity, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to promoting excellence, rewarding hard work, and strengthening institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.
