ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has alerted Nigerians to a fraudulent website circulating online and falsely claiming that the Commission has announced a new date for nationwide online voter registration.
INEC, in a public notice posted on its official X handle on Saturday, described the website as fake and said it had no affiliation whatsoever with the electoral commission.
The fake website, circulated through a shortened TinyURL link, reportedly claims that nationwide online voter registration would run from September 28 to October 27, 2026.
The Commission warned members of the public against clicking on the link or submitting personal information through the website, saying such action could expose sensitive personal data to being harvested or misused.
INEC clarified that the nationwide voter registration exercise closed on July 26, 2026, stressing that any information suggesting that a new nationwide online registration exercise is currently ongoing through the fraudulent website is false.
The electoral body urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and verify electoral information only through its official communication channels.
“For enquiries, please contact INEC through the INEC Call Centre: 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632), Short Code: 4632, Phone: 090844444333 or 09050858629, and email: [email protected],” the notice stated.
INEC also listed its official website and news portal as channels through which members of the public can obtain verified information.
The Commission advised Nigerians to disregard the fraudulent website and rely only on information issued through its official platforms.
