KADUNA- The Kaduna State Fire Service and Public Safety has recorded 12 fire outbreaks and four related deaths across the state in July.
Mr Paul Aboi, Director of the Service, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kaduna.
He said the incidents occurred in Kafanchan, Zaria, and Kaduna metropolis, resulting in the destruction of property valued at about N3.86 billion.
According to him, the service was, however, able to save assets estimated at N11.19 million from the various fire scenes.
Aboi said the agency responded to 12 rescue distressed calls and five false alarms within the period under review.
“One person was rescued alive, while another sustained injuries in the course of the incidents,” he confirmed.
The director attributed most of the outbreaks to carelessness and improper use of electrical appliances.
“The rainy season comes with low record of fire incidents as properties are wet but residents have to be extra careful with electrical appliances to avert disasters,” the director advised.
He urged residents to adopt safer fire-handling practice and ensure routine checks of electrical installations to avert future disasters. (NAN)
