Kanu To Eagles: Avenge Now, Approach Brazil Friendly Like A Cup Final

by Edit

Abuja (Precise Post) – Former Super Eagles striker, Nwankwo Kanu has asked Super Eagles to avenge now as he urged the players and handlers of the senior national team to see this month’s international friendly against the Selecao of Brazil as a cup final.

Speaking ahead of the October 13 clash in Singapore, the former Arsenal of England forward said that the team must come out blazing in the match as Nigerians will most definitely condemn them if they perform below expectations.

“Every game should be seen as a big competition regardless of the nature of the match. Friendly or no friendly, Nigerians will always expect the Super Eagles to give their best in every game they go into.

“There is pressure on the players especially when playing against a team like Brazil. The Samba Boys are one of the best football playing nations in the world and if the boys can beat them, it will be a massive boost for their confidence going into the AFCON qualifiers,” Kanu told AOIFootball.com.

Kanu, who remains a household name across the South American country following his heroics at the Atlanta 1996 Olympics, further urged the selected players to stand their ground and ensure they avenge the 3-0 bashing Nigeria suffered against Brazil in 2003.

This will be the second meeting between Nigeria and Brazil at senior level with the first coming in June 2003 where goals from Gil, Luis Fabiano and Carlos Souza earned the Brazilians a 3-0 win, with Kanu, also playing for Nigeria in that encounter.
