Former President Goodluck Jonathan-led delegation to Kenya for the pre-election assessment mission jointly organised by the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), has expressed confidence that calm and conducive atmosphere pervades the country ahead of the general elections scheduled for August 9, 2022.
Jonathan who disclosed this via his Facebook page on Thursday, said he is particularly interested in the work done by the Office of the Registrar of political parties, an agency that register and regulate the activities of political party as well as the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, a department of government that control hate speech and other related offences with the aim of checking inter-ethnic tensions and promoting political stability.

He wished the people of the Republic of Kenya free, fair and peaceful elections as well as a successful transition.
The statement reads:
After days of extensive consultations with various stakeholders in Nairobi, as the team lead of the delegation for the pre-election assessment mission jointly organised by the International Republican Institute (IRI) and the National Democratic Institute (NDI), I am leaving Kenya with the confidence that a calm and conducive atmosphere pervades the country ahead of the general elections scheduled for August 9, 2022.

In the course of the mission we met with an array of election stakeholders including the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC), political parties and candidates, civil society, media representatives, business associations, religious leaders, government officials and the judiciary.
We also met with the Office of the Registrar of political parties, an agency that register and regulate the activities of political party as well as the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, a department of government that control hate speech and other related offences with the aim of checking inter-ethnic tensions and promoting political stability.

I was particularly interested in the work done by these two agencies of government for which I commend Kenya for establishing such key organs that regulate and balance political behaviour.
I wish the people of the Republic of Kenya free, fair and peaceful elections as well as a successful transition.
