The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, to investigate allegations of murder levelled against the Senior Pastor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Chris Okafor.
The directive follows heightened public attention generated by sexual and other allegations against the cleric, which have circulated widely on social media in recent days.
Okafor had on New Year’s Day announced his decision to step aside from pastoral duties as the controversy intensified, with several women, including Nollywood actress Doris Ogala, making allegations against him.
Last Sunday, the cleric publicly apologised to Ogala during a church service, where he knelt on the pulpit, acknowledged what he described as past “mistakes” and asked for forgiveness.
The development comes weeks after Okafor’s wedding to a new bride, identified as Pearl, on December 16, 2025. The ceremony was attended by several prominent clerics.
Speaking earlier on Friday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, told journalists that the police had not arrested the pastor because no formal petition had been submitted by any of the alleged victims.
Adebisi said at the time that the command was not aware of any official complaint against Okafor, despite the allegations circulating online.
However, following a renewed request by journalists on Saturday night, accompanied by screenshots in which certain individuals accused the cleric of murder, the police spokesperson confirmed on Sunday that the Commissioner of Police had directed the SCID to invite Okafor for investigation.
According to her, the decision was taken even though no formal complaint had yet been lodged by any alleged victim.
“The CP has directed the SCID to invite the pastor for investigation, despite the fact that no one has formally come forward to report,” Adebisi said.
She added that the CP also instructed that witnesses be identified and encouraged to provide statements to aid the investigation.
Adebisi further disclosed that, on her own initiative, she had contacted a YouTuber who interviewed individuals behind the murder allegations in order to obtain direct links to potential witnesses.
The controversy surrounding the cleric began on December 14, when actress Doris Ogala posted a series of emotional videos on her Instagram page.
In the videos, Ogala alleged that she had a sexual relationship with Okafor, which she said began in 2017 and lasted several years. She also claimed that the pastor promised to marry her on multiple occasions before marrying another woman in December 2025.
Ogala further accused the cleric of sharing her explicit photos and videos without consent, and alleged that his actions contributed to the breakdown of her previous marriage, as well as emotional distress and financial loss.
She shared what she described as bedroom photos and screenshots of conversations, alongside videos in which she alleged that the pastor sent her $10,000 in an attempt to induce her to withdraw her claims and accuse a rival pastor of orchestrating the allegations.
Subsequently, Ogala, through her lawyers, issued a legal notice demanding N1 billion in damages, alleging threats and intimidation following her arrest and detention by the police.
As the controversy escalated, other women also made public allegations of sexual misconduct, manipulation and related issues against the cleric.
Among them was his former wife, Bessem Okafor, who accused him of infidelity, deception and physical assault.
However, some members of the church have dismissed the allegations, describing them as attempts by certain individuals to extort money from their pastor.
