Nigerian comedian and actor Debo Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has reflected on the tragic events of the #EndSARS protest at the Lekki Tollgate, describing how Nigerians have grown complacent toward the same leaders they once opposed.
Mr Macaroni took to his Instagram page on Monday to commemorate the Lekki Tollgate shooting of October 20, 2020, when military personnel opened fire on unarmed protesters demanding an end to police brutality and bad governance.
He recalled that many young Nigerians lost their lives, jobs, families, and dreams during the struggle, which began as a peaceful call for justice but ended in bloodshed.
While protesters insist there were casualties, the government has repeatedly denied that anyone was killed.
Expressing his pain and disappointment, Mr Macaroni lamented that many Nigerians have now aligned with the same system that oppressed them.
He wrote:
“Nigerian youths lost their lives, jobs, families, and dreams at the hands of the most corrupt and evil people we call leaders!
Even though my people are now in love with their oppressors, this day — 20/10/2020 — is never to be forgotten nor forgiven!”
Mr Macaroni, one of the most vocal figures during the #EndSARS movement, reaffirmed that the Lekki shooting remains a defining moment in Nigeria’s modern history — a day symbolising courage, sacrifice, and the continuing demand for accountability.
