ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Portugal following high-level talks between the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Ojukwu, and Portugal’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Professor Paulo Rangel.
Ojukwu disclosed on her X handle on Saturday that the bilateral meeting took place on the sidelines of the Eurafrican Forum, where both countries explored new opportunities for cooperation across key sectors of their economies.
According to the minister, Nigeria is prepared to strengthen collaboration with Portugal in trade and investment, renewable energy, maritime security, digital technology, agriculture, education, defence cooperation, and capacity development as part of efforts to boost economic growth and mutual prosperity.
She revealed that both sides also discussed the establishment of a Nigeria-Portugal Joint Commission to serve as a formal platform for regular political consultations and enhanced diplomatic engagement, while expanding cooperation in areas of shared interest.
The talks further focused on finalising the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) and the Double Taxation Agreement, which are expected to improve air connectivity, facilitate commercial activities, eliminate tax barriers, and create a more attractive investment environment for businesses in both countries.
Ojukwu described the discussions as productive, expressing optimism that the proposed frameworks would deepen Nigeria-Portugal relations and unlock greater opportunities for trade, investment, and strategic partnership between the two nations.
