Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has reiterated the country’s strong commitment to promoting and supporting democratic governance across the African continent. She made this statement during a diplomatic meeting with Malawi’s Foreign Minister, Nancy Tembo, emphasizing that democracy remains a core pillar of President Bola Tinubu’s foreign policy agenda.
Odumegwu-Ojukwu assured Nigeria’s full backing for Malawi’s forthcoming general elections slated for September 2025, pledging technical and developmental assistance through Nigeria’s Technical Aids Corps. She noted that this support would include the deployment of skilled professionals to help bridge critical gaps in Malawi’s electoral and governance systems.
In a significant diplomatic development, the Minister also lauded Malawi’s decision to establish a resident embassy in Abuja, describing it as a timely move that will revitalize long-standing bilateral relations. She expressed optimism that the renewed engagement would strengthen cooperation in key sectors such as education, diplomacy, and institutional governance.
