Abuja (Precise Post) – The current Police visibility, faster response, and public engagement are proving to be a winning formular in Nigeria’s ongoing security strategy, according to fresh figures from the August 2025 report unveiled by the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
The Director General of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, who disclosed this on Monday during the September Joint Security Press Briefing in Abuja, detailed how successive raids from July 19 through mid-August dismantled supply chains and apprehended key figures in organized crime and terrorism.
According to him, the Nigeria Police Force executed 210 coordinated operations, resulting into : 1,950 arrests and dismantling of 37 criminal gangs;
Rescue of 141 kidnap victims; Recovery of 111 firearms and 48 explosives; Seizure of ₦250.74 million in illicit funds.
He also highlighted that in a significant community response effort, 278 press releases and 97 advisories were issued to dispel rumors and provide real-time safety information.
Additionally, 2 new Area Commands and 5 upgraded police stations—including in Benue State’s Yelwata—show that citizen complaints are translating into infrastructure changes.
“The trust deficit is being repaired,” said the NOA Director. “We’re pairing arrests with transparency, and police work with public information. That’s the new standard.”
He reiterated that the Agency will continue town halls, social media outreach, and local partnerships to ensure communities remain informed and engaged.
The NOA DG also noted that Nigeria Security agencies recorded a string of inter-agency victories in August – underscoring the country’s unified strategy against insecurity and economic sabotage.
According to the report, major highlights from the past month include: 261 military operations with ISWAP ambushes repelled and 76 terrorist surrenders;
66,255.81 kg of narcotics seized by NDLEA; 588 corruption convictions by EFCC, recovering over ₦21.06bn; 17 containers of fake or unsafe products seized by NAFDAC; 50 trafficking victims rescued, and 368 deportations coordinated by Immigration services.
Other notable breakthroughs include: Arrest of a female arms trafficker in Zamfara with 300 rounds of ammunition; Seizure of grenades and fabricated rifles across Abuja and Plateau; Apprehension of Ansaru and Mahmuda group leaders; Rescue of a kidnapped Taraba lecturer.
“These weren’t isolated busts.” “This was a sequenced takedown based on fused intelligence and joint action,” Onilu said.
“The operation also reflected the increasing synergy among agencies, including DSS, Police, and Military intelligence, aligning with the National Security Adviser’s directive to combine tactical strikes with public communication.
The NOA credited these outcomes to stronger inter-agency coordination, public engagement, and adherence to Presidential directives on intelligence-led actions and clear communication.
The agency reiterated its commitment to translating complex security actions into accessible language via town halls, media partnerships, and its AI platform CLHEEAN, in all 774 LGAs.
