ABUJA (Ptecise Post) – As Nigeria celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on citizens to go beyond ceremonial festivities and recommit themselves to the values of patriotism, responsibility, and nation-building.
In a goodwill message commemorating the national milestone, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, urged Nigerians to reflect deeply on the essence of their identity and shared national aspirations. He emphasized that the anniversary offers a timely opportunity to strengthen unity, peace, and progress by embracing discipline, integrity, self-reliance, and social justice, the statement signed by the Deputy Director, Communication & Media, Paul Odenyi made available to Precise Post on Wednesday.
“The future of Nigeria depends not just on leaders in office, but on how every citizen chooses to uphold these values in everyday life,” Issa-Onilu stated.
The NOA DG also praised ongoing efforts by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to revitalize the economy and restore public confidence. He encouraged Nigerians to see this year’s Independence Day not just as a celebration, but as a renewed call to civic responsibility, volunteerism, and active participation in community development.
True patriotism, he noted, is reflected not only in symbolic gestures but in citizens’ daily actions — by respecting national symbols, following the rule of law, and demonstrating ethical conduct.
Issa-Onilu further called on schools, faith-based institutions, traditional leaders, and civil society organisations to initiate conversations within their communities about national identity, cultural preservation, and the role of active citizenship in a thriving democracy.
Reaffirming the NOA’s commitment to promoting civic values and national unity, he urged Nigerians both at home and abroad to proudly recommit themselves to the ideals of the nation and work together to build a better, stronger Nigeria.
