ABAKALIKI – Mrs Queendarlyn Nwigwe has been elected and inaugurated as the Chairperson of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Ebonyi State chapter.
Reports that the inauguration took place at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Abakaliki.
The event was attended by the Commissioner for Inter-Party Affairs, Mr Philip Okorie and the IPAC Director-General and National Chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Mr Chinedu Obi.
Also in attendance were the political party leaders, electoral officials and other stakeholders.
Other members of the newly inaugurated executive committee were Bishop Constant Edward, Deputy Chairman; Mr Peter Ozuma, Secretary; Evangelist Kate Ohakam, Deputy Secretary and Mr Stanley Ogodo, Organising Secretary.
Others are; Mrs Juliet Nwinya, Publicity Secretary; Mrs Mercy Nwogbala, Treasurer and Mr Paschal Ani, Financial Secretary.
In her acceptance speech, Nwigwe acknowledged the initial challenges encountered during the election but assured members that her administration would be transparent, inclusive and committed to promoting unity and democratic values within the council.
She pledged to strengthen communication among political parties, promote peaceful elections and campaigns, and sustain a conducive political environment across Ebonyi State.
Nwigwe assured members that she would discharge her responsibilities with fairness, neutrality and impartiality.
Her answers were in response to concerns that her position as the All Progressives Congress (APC) Women Leader in the state could affect her role as IPAC chairman,
Inaugurating the new executive, the IPAC DG, Mr Chinedu Obi, commended the Ebonyi State Government for establishing the Ministry of Inter-Party Affairs, describing it as a unique initiative that promoted inclusive democracy.
He urged the new executive to sustain peace, unity and collaboration among political parties.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Inter-Party Affairs, Mr Philip Okorie, congratulated the new executive and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the council in strengthening democracy and fostering peaceful political engagement.
Former Ebonyi IPAC Chairman and Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state, Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, urged Nwigwe to lead with fairness and impartiality.
She noted that Nwigwe was the second woman to serve as IPAC chairman in Ebonyi and called on all political parties to support her administration in the interest of democracy and political stability. (NAN)
