ABEOKUTA- Ogun government says it has commenced the rehabilitation of major farm settlements and agricultural facilities across the state under the State Economic Transformation Project.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Mr Bolu Owootomo, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interface with the Ogun House of Assembly Committee on Agriculture, led by Hon. Waliu Owode.
The meeting also had in attendance the Chairman, Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC), Mr Waliu Taiwo.
Owootomo listed the affected facilities to include the Odeda Farm Institute, Ajegunle Farm Settlement, Ikenne Processing Facility and the Ado-Odo Farm Project.
He said the rehabilitation is aimed at strengthening food security, enhancing productivity and creating employment opportunities for residents.
Owode said the engagement was part of efforts to implement a House resolution seeking urgent revitalisation of Apoje Farms in Ijebu-Igbo and a holistic review of all government-owned agricultural estates.
The committee chairman, however directed the ministry and the ADC to submit a comprehensive report on the condition of all farm settlements in the state within seven days.
He said the report should highlight the current status of the settlements, challenges, proposed solutions and areas requiring legislative intervention.
In his contribution, the Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye called for a stronger policy alignment between the ministry and the ADC.
He proposed the creation of a unified operational framework outlining roles, responsibilities and measurable outcomes to ensure a coordinated approach to managing the state’s farm settlements. (NAN)
