ABUJA (PRECISE POST)  –  Former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has commended the recent meeting between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN), describing the engagement as a positive step towards strengthening democracy and fostering national development.
In a statement issued on Sunday on his Facebook page, Kalu said sincere dialogue between the government and respected national institutions remains indispensable in every thriving democracy, stressing that such engagements promote understanding and collective responsibility in addressing the country’s challenges.
According to him, the Catholic Church has consistently played a significant role in advancing justice, peace, moral values and national unity, while the President bears the enormous responsibility of steering the nation through prevailing economic and security difficulties.
The former Chief Whip of the Senate noted that open and honest conversations between the nation’s leadership and critical stakeholders provide an opportunity to listen, reflect and collaborate in the overall interest of Nigerians.
He urged both government and citizens to embrace constructive engagement, saying criticism should be accepted in good faith while the efforts of government to tackle the country’s numerous challenges deserve fair and objective evaluation.
Kalu maintained that the country’s collective aspiration should be progress rather than division, regardless of political, religious or ethnic differences.
“Our collective goal should not be division but progress. Regardless of political, religious or ethnic differences, we must continue to support every sincere effort that will strengthen our democracy, improve the economy, enhance security and give hope to our people,” he stated.
Calling for greater national cohesion, the senator emphasized that Nigeria’s future depends on the willingness of all stakeholders to work together in the interest of peace, prosperity and unity.
“Nigeria belongs to all of us, and together we can build the peaceful, prosperous and united nation we desire,” Kalu said, charging Nigerians to “Keep Hope Alive.”
