The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deployed Voter Enrollment Devices (VEDs) to remote and underserved communities across Osun State as part of the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, made this known on Monday during an extended stakeholders’ meeting on the second phase of the CVR held in Osogbo.
According to Agboke, the second phase of the voter registration exercise commenced on January 5 and will run until April 17, with a new strategy designed to expand access for eligible voters, especially those in rural areas.
He explained that INEC has approved a 50-day rotational deployment of the Voter Enrollment Devices among scattered communities in each local government area, subject to endorsement by relevant stakeholders.
“This phase of the CVR introduces a far-reaching innovation through the rotational deployment of Voter Enrollment Devices to hard-to-reach communities,” Agboke said. “The initiative brings registration services closer to eligible citizens, particularly those in remote and underserved areas.”
He noted that the deployment would reduce transportation costs for prospective registrants, decongest registration centres, and improve efficiency in service delivery across the state.
Agboke added that anchoring the process on stakeholders’ endorsement at the local government level has strengthened transparency, enhanced local ownership, and encouraged collective responsibility for the success of the exercise.
He further stated that the initiative would boost public confidence in the voter registration process and reinforce INEC’s commitment to credibility, inclusivity, innovation, and institutional integrity.
The REC emphasised that the Continuous Voter Registration exercise remains free of charge and urged members of the public to report any cases of extortion or misconduct by officials through INEC’s established reporting channels.
“The voter registration exercise is not a contest among political parties but a national civic responsibility,” he said, calling on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to maintain peace before, during, and after the registration process.
