ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has disclosed plans to commence the construction of the proposed Umuahia Stadium City before the end of 2026, describing the project as a major sports and economic development initiative for the state.
Governor Otti made the announcement while receiving a delegation led by Abia-born Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze, who visited him at the Government House in Umuahia to express appreciation for the governor’s support and presence during the burial of his late mother.
Speaking during the meeting, the governor revealed that the land for the project had already been acquired and that feasibility studies were ongoing. He explained that the development would go beyond a conventional stadium to include hotels, residential estates and other commercial attractions, transforming the area into a full-fledged sports village.
According to him, the Stadium City project is designed to stimulate economic activities and attract investments into the state. He encouraged Abians at home and in the diaspora to take advantage of emerging opportunities by investing in sectors of interest, assuring that indigenous investors would be given priority consideration.
Governor Otti also congratulated Chukwueze on his achievements in international football and his role in projecting a positive image of Abia State. He assured the football star of the state government’s continued support, adding that his administration remains committed to celebrating and assisting distinguished Abians wherever they may be.

The governor further sympathised with Chukwueze over the death of his mother, describing the loss as painful and monumental. He urged the footballer to remain strong, keep faith in God and continue to maintain close ties with his home state despite the tragedy.
Earlier, Chukwueze thanked the governor for identifying with him and his family during the burial rites. He commended the Otti administration for what he described as visible infrastructural transformation across Abia State, particularly improvements in road infrastructure and urban renewal in Umuahia.
The AC Milan forward said he was impressed by the pace of development in the state, noting that his recent visit revealed significant changes that had improved mobility and enhanced the appearance of the state capital. He praised the governor’s leadership and said the achievements deserved recognition.
Commenting on the proposed Stadium City project, Chukwueze described it as a visionary investment that would boost sports development and create opportunities for young talents. He added that modern sporting facilities would help position Abia as a destination for sports enthusiasts and investors.
The football star also disclosed plans to invest in sports development in the state as part of efforts to give back to the community that nurtured his career. He said initiatives were already being developed gradually, stressing that he remained committed to supporting young people in his hometown and contributing to the growth of sports in Abia State
