Property worth over a Billion Naira is lost as fire razes Duchess Lounge, a favourite lounge for most socialites in Jalingo the State capital.

Though the actual cause of the fire could not be ascertained, eyewitnesses suggest that the fire may have started as a result of sudden power surge and made worse by the weather.

Our Correspondent who visits the scene notes that the entire first floor comprising of the general club, VIP and VVIP sections all burnt to ashes with all the furniture and sound systems.

The owner of the lounge and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly Professor Joseph Albasu Kunini told our Correspondent that the place has just undergone a comprehensive overhauling preparatory for the Third anniversary on 30th of December.

“It is a sad development and a huge lost but we thank God that no life was lost. You know that we just did a complete overhauling of the place and changed the furniture ahead of our Third anniversary this December” he said.

The manager of the place Mr Desmond Wee told our Correspondent that when the fire started, he immediately called the fire services but they only arrived Three hours later after the damage was already done.
