The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to provide full disclosure on the recently announced $250 million investment agreement with the European African Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, described the governor’s announcement as “an embarrassment to the people of Edo,” and vowed that the PDP would no longer tolerate a lack of transparency in the state’s financial dealings.
The Edo State Government had, on September 25, 2025, revealed that Governor Okpebholo signed the investment deal during the Edo State Global Investment Summit held in Glasgow, Scotland. According to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the agreement with EuroAfrica CCI—a coalition of chambers of commerce across 98 countries—outlines a framework for strategic investments in Edo over the next three to five years.
However, the PDP has raised concerns about the details of the deal and the government’s overall fiscal management.
“We are demanding clarity on this so-called $250 million investment, which is fast becoming a national embarrassment,” Osa-Ogbegie stated. “We will also question the abandonment of key projects initiated by the previous administration under Governor Godwin Obaseki and shine a spotlight on the current administration’s opaque approach to public finance.”
While reaffirming the party’s respect for constituted authority, Osa-Ogbegie emphasized that the PDP’s primary loyalty lies with the people of Edo State.
“When policies are in the interest of the people, we will support them. But where governance becomes wasteful, deceptive, or oppressive, we will stand with the people,” he said.
He also issued a challenge to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), specifically addressing the party’s Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, and Commissioner for Information, Paul Ohonbamu.
“The road ahead will be intense. I am prepared. I hope you are too,” he added.
The PDP’s statement comes as the party inaugurated a new state executive committee. Tony Aziegbemi was returned as Chairman, with Victor Enoghoma (Deputy Chairman), Henry Tenebe (Secretary), and Monday Osaigbovo (Vice Chairman, South) among others. Also elected were Adekunle Oboh (Vice Chairman, Central), Richard Anetekhia (Vice Chairman, North), Ogbeide Ifaluyu-Isibor (Organising Secretary), John Adodo (Financial Secretary), Benedicta Attoh (Women Leader), Paul Itua (Legal Adviser), Liberty Ogboh (Treasurer), Austin Edosowan (Youth Leader), Obas Stephen (Auditor), and Daniel Osa-Ogbegie as Publicity Secretary.
