ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has reaffirmed his commitment to improving education, healthcare and social welfare with financial support for an Anglican Diocese in Cross River State.
This also as he has commended citizens participating in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.
Obi made the remarks Sunday on his X handle after a series of engagements in Ogoja and Yala Local Government Areas of Cross River State, where he visited healthcare, electoral and religious institutions.
The former Anambra State governor said he first visited the Catholic Maternity Hospital in Ogoja, where he donated support to the hospital and its School of Midwifery as part of his continued advocacy for strengthening healthcare delivery and medical education.
He also visited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Continuous Voter Registration Centre located at St. Ben’s Demonstration Primary School, Ogoja, where he observed the voter registration process and praised the orderly conduct of citizens who turned out to register.
Obi later attended the first Synod of the newly installed Bishop of the Missionary Diocese of Ogoja, Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), where the bishop unveiled a development vision focused on expanding access to education and healthcare through the establishment of a school and a hospital.
In support of the initiative, Obi announced an initial donation of ₦5 million, describing investments in education, healthcare and the welfare of the less privileged as essential to building a productive, compassionate and prosperous nation.
He commended the Bishop and the Diocese for their dedication to humanitarian service, noting that faith-based institutions continue to play a vital role in addressing critical social needs.
The presidential candidate also travelled through Okuku in Yala Local Government Area, where he interacted with residents.
Obi stressed that Nigeria’s development depends on sustained investment in people and institutions, expressing optimism that the country could achieve lasting progress through purposeful leadership and collective commitment.
“Together, through purposeful investments in people and institutions, we can build a better Nigeria,” he said, reiterating his signature message that “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
