ABUJA (PRECISE POST) – Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million towards the establishment of a Skills Laboratory Centre at Grimard College of Nursing Sciences, Ayingba, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Obi disclosed this in a statement posted on his X handle on Sunday, following his visit to the institution on Saturday, August 15.
According to him, his latest intervention was part of his continued commitment to strengthening education and healthcare in Nigeria.
Obi recalled that the nursing institution had, a few years ago, faced the threat of losing its accreditation due to the absence of a bus for students to undertake clinical placements.
He said his intervention, which resulted in the provision of a school bus, helped the institution retain its accreditation and continue training nurses and other healthcare professionals.
“It gives me great satisfaction to note that, thanks to my intervention and the subsequent provision of a school bus, the school has successfully retained its accreditation and continues to play a vital role in educating nurses and other healthcare professionals,” he said.
During Saturday’s visit, Obi said he further supported the institution with ₦10 million to establish a Skills Laboratory Centre, stressing that he would continue to support its management, staff and students.
He also charged the students to remain committed to their studies, noting that nursing offers extensive opportunities for professional development and equips practitioners with knowledge and skills to make meaningful contributions both nationally and globally.
Obi stressed the importance of deliberate investment in education and healthcare, describing the two sectors as critical foundations for sustainable national development and improved quality of life.
“Every nation striving for sustainable development and an improved quality of life for its citizens must deliberately invest in two crucial sectors: education and healthcare,” he said.
Obi urged governments to prioritise both sectors while encouraging individuals and organisations to complement government efforts through meaningful interventions.
