Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has officially declared his support for George Moghalu, the party’s flagbearer in the upcoming 2025 Anambra State governorship election.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Obi explained that his endorsement stems from Moghalu’s strong focus on human capital development and his commitment to people-centered governance.
Obi praised Moghalu’s campaign manifesto, describing it as a comprehensive plan built around critical sectors such as security, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation.
“Over the weekend, I joined George Moghalu, the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, at a town hall meeting in Nimo, Anambra Central Senatorial Zone,” Obi shared in a post on (formerly Twitter).
“Together with the Obidient family, I fully support @MoghaluGeorge because his campaign manifesto places human development at the heart of governance. He is committed to strengthening security, advancing education, improving healthcare, and lifting our people out of poverty—at a time when the safety of lives and the future of our children’s education remain critical concerns.”
Obi further emphasized that Moghalu brings more than just political ambition to the race—he represents the values of true leadership.
“Beyond competence, George Moghalu has consistently demonstrated capacity, compassion, and character—the core pillars of effective leadership,” Obi stated. “We are confident that under his guidance, Anambra will not only witness real progress but will also achieve meaningful gains in the Human Development Index (HDI), securing a brighter and more dignified future for our people.”
INEC Confirms Election Date
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Anambra State Governorship Election will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
As campaigns begin to intensify, Obi’s endorsement is expected to provide a significant boost to Moghalu’s candidacy, especially among the “Obidient” movement and LP loyalists across the state.
