OSOGBO – The Police Command in Osun has confirmed that two persons were killed in separate violent clashes in Egbatedo and Owode-Igbona areas of Osogbo.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, in an interview with newsmen on Thursday, said the incidents occurred on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
Ojelabi said one person died in the Egbatedo clash, while four others sustained injuries and are responding to treatment.
He added that two suspects connected to the incident had been arrested and had provided useful information on other persons involved.
The police spokesperson further said one person was also killed in the Owode-Igbona clash, with no arrest made so far.
He, however, said that a pistol, three rounds of ammunition and five cartridges were recovered from the scene.
Reacting, Gov. Ademola Adeleke condemned the incidents and called for calm, while urging security agencies to enforce the law and apprehend those responsible.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor debunked insinuations of the state government’s involvement.
“We received with concern reports of suspected cult-related killings in Osogbo and call on security agencies to enforce the law and go after the culprits.
“The killings and the subsequent violence are condemnable.
“I urge security agencies to investigate and apprehend those involved in this dastardly act,” the governor said.(NAN)
