ABUJA (PRECISE POST )  –  The State of Qatar has slammed Colombia for opening of an embassy to Israel in occupied Jerusalem, describing the move as a violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.Qatar’s position was contained in a statement released on the official X handle of its Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The ministry specifically cited United Nations Security Council Resolution 478 (1980), which rejected Israel’s declaration of Jerusalem as its capital and called on states that had established diplomatic missions in the city to withdraw them.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry reaffirmed Doha’s rejection of any measures aimed at changing Jerusalem’s historical and legal status quo.
It called on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities by taking action against attempts to impose a new reality in the occupied city.

According to the ministry, preserving Jerusalem’s historical and legal status quo is essential to safeguarding the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

The statement reiterated Qatar’s position in support of the Palestinians, urging the international community to protect their rights amid continuing disagreements over Jerusalem’s status.

The embassy issue underscores the longstanding international dispute over Jerusalem, which both Israelis and Palestinians regard as central to their national aspirations.

Qatar maintained that any action affecting the city’s status must be considered in light of international law and relevant UN resolutions.
